Aruu County Member of Parliament, Odonga Otto was one of the major attractions in the on-going 2013 Christmas pool tournament at Capital Pub in Kabalagala.
The vocal legislator proved that indeed practice makes perfect as the numerous hours he has invested on the pool table have eventually reaped dividends for him.
Despite a dismissal start as a single, Otto, the only pool playing member of Parliament in Uganda partnered with Easy Omony to eliminate Yusuf Meyan and Allan Nsubuga in the preliminary round of the doubles before edging Robert Tumusiime and Jonathan Oduku in the round of 16 to progress to the quater-finals that will be concluded on Sunday.
“Pool is just another part of my life. I play as a hobby to keep around my people”, Otto told Kawowo Sports after his progress.
Surprises marred the doubles as the Jinja unsung pair of Ibra Sentamu and Navy Matovu beat two of the most feared and respected pool players in the country – Alfred Gumikiriza and Sula Matovu before dispatching off Fahad Ssewanakambo and Musa Ssekiliba.
In the Singles of the ladies played, one of the female top seeded player, Carol Kanzira was bundled out of the tourney by Shamim Nalugwa in the round of 16 players as the qaurter -finals of both sexes take center stage.
Defending champion, Vivian Kagoye plays 2013 Kampala Open ladies’ winner, Ritah Niisima while Vicky Namuyanja, last year’s losing finalist takes on Sofi Nakigudde in some of the highlights of the quarter-finals.
The men’s single round of 16 too starts at noon with Amos Ndyagumanawe, the defending champion taking on Grace Akoyo while Alfred Gumikiriza plays Silas Kateregga.
