Brussels Airlines has offered 14 return air tickets to the Uganda National Volleyball Ladies’ team to fly to the Netherlands in Groningen, where they will hold a special 2 week’s training camp ahead of the continental qualification phase of the world championships that will be held in Italy, come September.
The offer implies Uganda joins European nation, Belgium as the other nation being sponsored by Brussels Airlines in the different sporting disciplines.
“As Brussels Airlines, we are privileged to offer this support to the Uganda National ladies’ team. Actually, this is not the first time we are supporting sports. We sponsor the Belgian National Football Team”, Suzanne Othieno, the Sales Executive at Brussels Airlines told the media at the special brief but colorful event to announce the package.
Each of the 14 air tickets cost $ 1000 minus taxes. Speaking at the event held at the Uganda Olympic Committee Offices in Lugogo, Kampala on Friday evening, Sadik Zaid Nasiwu, the Uganda Volleyball President (UVF), appreciated the offer as he embraced the offer with warm open hands.
“We thank Brussels Airlines and we are glad they have committed themselves to further assistance to the national volleyball team. I also thank all those other partners, Uganda Olympic Committee, International School of Uganda, National Council of Sports and Mr Burt Munting for approaching the sponsors”, remarked the UVF President.
At the same event, the head coach of the team, Peter Tonny Lakony announced the 13 traveling players and named Christine Alupo as the team skipper, replacing Christine Alobo, who is taking a sabbatical leave off the sport she once enjoyed.
The team departs from Entebbe International Airport on Monday, 20th January and will return on 3rd February 2014 before making final touches on the preparations for the continental show down in Kenya where African nations, Tunisia, Senegal, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Seychelles.
The Top team will qualify for the World Championships after the round robin tournament.
