The Lady Volleyball Cranes will approach all their six games at the FIVB World Championship qualifiers like their lives depend on it. It’s the first time that Uganda is playing at this stage and on their first attempt
Uganda will open its campaign against Kenya this Sunday, before playing Senegal, Seychelles, Tunisia, Cape Verde and Mozambique in a round robin format were the winner qualifies for the finals in Italy.
“We are eager to go down to Nairobi and give our best for this country,” team libero Shilla Omuriwe said while appearing a NTV’s popular sports show Omumuli gwemizanyo
“We have not come this far just to give up and return home, we want to take it all the way because we deserve it,” she added.
On Monday morning, head coach Tony Lakony had preached the same message to the media.
“Every game is a final, no team that has qualified for this stage should be underestimated,” Lakony told Journalist at The Hub during a press briefing yesterday.
“We put ourselves up there when we beat Egypt, but we are still underdogs with a great chance of qualifying for the finals in Italy.”
“Everyone sees Kenya as the biggest hurdle but It’s not about Kenya, Tunisia are also equally good and Senegal has a number of professional, but our strategy will see us through,” Lakony added.
To advance to this final stage of qualification, Uganda rewrote history when they defeated three time African champions Egypt 3-0 in 31 years.
