The two day tournament will see women defending champions Nkumba Ndejje depleted, the duo has four and three players on the national team respectively.

You are never conspired to be a champion for winning title but for defending them. Nemostars can count themselves in that league after winning the Makerere Open for the last two editions.

Winning the 42nd edition will earn them their first trophy of the season though opposition will come from Sport-S, Sky, KAVC and Ndejje Sharks. “For the last two years we have been the team to beat, but we have always stood the taste of time,” Nemostars captain George Aporu told kawowo sports.

“After a poor show at the Nemo Duu, we had to go back on the drawing board and plan afresh; I believe we are ready to start defending our titles starting with the Makerere Open.” Last year’s finalists KAVC will be expected to put the biggest challenge just like they did they whole of last year.

“I can’t really say we are out to win the championship, but we want to give it our best shot being the first open tournament of the season,” said KAVC’s Joel Endra.  Sport-S might have lost Isaac Omedo to Sky but will boast of recruiting left hander Ivan Ongom and Silver Kasasa from UCU, setter Albert Gayi from Nkumba Navy.

Still hoping that Dickens Otim will be cleared to play for them, Sport-S captain Andrew ‘Kasumali’ Wandera is looking ahead. “2013 didn’t go so well for us, we hope to have a better 2014 starting with the Makerere Open,” Kasumali said.

The two day tournament will see women defending champions Nkumba and another would be favorite Ndejje depleted, the two powerhouses have four and three players on the national team respectively.
