The winner never received any trophies not even certificates after the organizers Makerere University failed to make an appearance throughout the two days of the tournament.

KAMPALA. New comers Vision Volleyball Camp (VCC) sent early signals that they won be pushovers this volleyball season after winning the 42nd edition of the Makerere Open on their debut outing. VVC saw off two time league winner Ndejje Elites 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-16) in a one sided final.

VVC, who have been starving with playing time, utilized the strong qualities (service and cover) to make life miserable for Ndejje. Each side missing key players who are with the Lady Volleyball Cranes in Nairobi, VVC banked on the depth in their squad to as they rallied to victory.

It was VVC’s captain Viola ‘Shosho’ Akisa who brought out the best in her side with her setting experience. “I have never been a captain in my life, but am happy that on my first mission with a new club we have managed to come out victorious,” Shosho said.

“We gave our all, played according to instructions from the coach and kept our cool throughout the tournament,” she added. VVC played six games in total dropping only one point against fellow debutants Espoir.

“Yes we have won on our debut tournament, but we have to polish our mistakes since we don’t plan to make life easy for most of the top clubs,” Pajije said. Ndejje’s relied on captain Belindah Bitok, Margaret Namyalo and Jesca Kadiu but they could do little to inspire the inexperienced side.

“Our target was to try out the fringe players, but they surprised me when they reached the final,” said Ndejje’s coach Johnson Kawenyera. Sport-S edged Sky (25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, 11-15) in the men’s final.

The winner never received any trophies not even certificates after the organizers Makerere University failed to make an appearance throughout the two days of the tournament.
