KAMPALA. The Lady Volleyball Cranes enjoyed another sweet victory after they defeated Mozambique at the ongoing FIVB World Championship qualifiers in Nairobi. Uganda defeated Mozambique 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15) on Thursday in a one sided game that had long rallies back and forth.

It was the country’s second win after registering a 3-2 against Seychelles after Kenya had humbled the side in straight sets. Reports in Nairobi indicate that Uganda had the upper hand on their service reception, block attack and cover in the three sets they won.

Coach Tonny Lakony might have found the winning formulae in setter Milly Laker, middle players Chrisitne Alupo and Irene Adeke together with power attackers Astreede Agaaba, Josephine Nammanda and Eunice Amuron. The sixteenth has been starting every set for Uganda sicne the Seychelles game. Laker designed attacks for Nammanda, Amuron and, Agaaba’s attacks, but Alupo and Adeke were lethal on the block.

“We have definitely shown some good signs of progress and I am impressed with the response of my team players,” Lakony said after the game in Nairobi. “I have seen tremendous growth especially in defensive play and it is encouraging, we will take a step at a time and now focus on our next assignment,” he added.

Uganda now has five points, and by press time were one behind Tunisia and Kenya who have collected six out of two outing each. Uganda plays Tunisia on Thursday before taking Senegal in their last fixture on Saturday.
