East and Central Africa Rowing Championships:

6th – 9th March 2014:

Kisubi Beach

Ahead of the East and Central Africa Rowing Championships slated for early March at Kisubi beach, Ugandan rowers have intensified training. “The rowers are doing road road grills, power and endurance exercises, as well as double session on the rowing boats per day”, Rodrick Muhumuza, a FISA Certified coach tells Kawowo Sports.

Perhaps, the initial national trials / national rowing regatta that was to be held in February, in preparation for the East and Central Clubs Rowing championships was not held for un clear reasons.

Already 5 African nations; Senegal, the Indian Ocean based nation of Madagascar, Kenya, Namibia and the hosts, Uganda have already confirmed their participation in the 3 day event.

The world’s Rowing body, FISA is yet to ship in 5 competition boats, though they are expected any time. A top rowing coach based in Holland, Thomas Freidhoff has already expressed his desire to come and watch the abundant African talent at disposal on the Continent.

“I will be coming to watch the championships. I will carry a concept machine for team Uganda and other food supplements that will help out the rowers with energy”, Friedhoff remarks.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
