The Uganda Golf Union  has drawn a work plan for national amateur golfers in the country ahead of the three qualifiers slated from March 4-6 at Uganda Golf Club and Entebbe Club respectively.

“We are requiring every player to register and get approval from the golf captain of his home club,” Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the president of the Uganda Golf Union said.  “The captains are going to be very involved in order to have a watchful eye on the players throughout the year and ensure discipline.

The first of these qualifiers will be held next week over four days to pick a team for the Zone Six and Africa Junior championships due in South Africa and Zambia in April.

The new executive that was elected recently has drawn out a two-year work plan that is expected to galvanise Uganda amateur golf all over the country.

Some of the benefits outlined by the UGU executive include access for the members to golf courses, opportunity to play for the national team in international events.

“We shall ensure that the teams are properly kitted with uniforms and other golf equipment, where possible,” Kiwanuka added. “We need players to acquire passport where the same are not available.”

The executive that outlined it’s work plan at their first meeting yesterday have developed a clear registration form for the players in order for them to be able them to collect the data of all the players who engage in activities so that they can enable them to follow them up even when not on the national team.

We shall try and support as many of these players to participate in the local events outside their home clubs so that they can have exposure and also encourage others to try out for the national team.
