Dorothy Namusoke will soon be a Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) referee candidate, only the second in Uganda. This is after the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) organized the first International Candidate Referee course solely for female referees in Nairobi, Kenya from March 3 to 11, 2014.

Namusoke who also doubles as a player for KCCA is part of the 18 referees taking part in the course hailing from the following 10 countries, Egypt, Uganda, Cameroon, Tunisia, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi and Zimbabwe.

The last five countries are hoping to have their first ever female referee for the sport of volleyball, Uganda already has one in Hadija Namanda.  The main goal of the course is to increase the number and effectiveness of female referees on the African continent.

The course will be directed by the FIVB and CAVB refereeing commission president Hassan Ahmed and the Course Instructor will be Jacek Spisak. Africa began work four years ago on the development of female referees and have succeeded in adding more than 25 volleyball and beach volleyball referees in the last few years.
