Entebbe Mongers RFC will battle Impis RFC this Saturday, 8th March, 4:00pm at Makerere Impis RFC Grounds, both vying for the last team slot to make 6th in the next 2014/2015 Nile Special Rugby Premiership season.
This particular fixture ought to have become a result last weekend, but Entebbe Mongers RFC hesitated travelling to Makerere citing Uganda Rugby Union’s failure to notify them about the playoff.
According to a statement released by Uganda Rugby Union (URU) on Wednesday March 5th, Entebbe Mongers RFC now owe Impis RFC a formal apology for dishonouring the fixture, URU revealing communication made earlier in league Management committee meetings, the Entebbe based club failed to attend.
“For Entebbe Mongers to have claimed they were notified of the playoff is unfortunate,” the statement read.
“You will recall the matter was also addressed in League Management Committee meetings as well as club chairmen’s round table.” “It is feared Entebbe Mongers’ non-attendance at both forums partly explains their not being abreast with some of the current rugby affairs.”
“In light of averments made by Impis, we advise that Mongers makes a formal apology to Impis RFC and engages with a view to reach an amicable settlement for the averred costs,” the statement further revealed.
Impis RFC who won the Rugby Championship were relegated from the top flight league last year, and now meet a big opportunity to return, if they emerge victorious.
Entebbe Mongers who finished 6th last season, having won 5, drew 1 and lost 7 matches, also seek the same slot to remain in the premiership, that had Lira Bulls and Mutoni Warriors relegated.
