The reigning Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) kick boxer of the year 2013, Moses ‘Of Uganda’ Golola at long last got out of the ‘talking’ shell to real action as he humiliated former national champion, Ronald Mugula in the well publicized bout.

Many fans across the divide, pundits in the locker rooms always laughed off the prized fighter arguably the finest, most popular and vocal  as a talkative fighter whose antics to promote the sport with his endless remarks have often overshadowed his ringside action.

Kawowo Sports’ David Isabirye keenly followed every bit of the fight chronology since KT Promotions announced its birth, the blessing by Uganda Kick boxing Federation (UKF) and the eventual night fight at Freedom City, along Entebbe road.

On a night blessed by continuous heavenly drizzles, Golola attacked Mugula from the very first signal of Umpire Charles Wandera Mugoya to the very last sound of the bell in the 5th round of the K1 full contact fight.

Get the fight’s nitty gritty and an insightful approaches with the 5 basic reasons why and how Moses Golola easily outwitted Ronald Mugula.

1 – Golola’s improved tactics

Prior the fight, Ronald Mugula had always been looked as technically gifted compared to Moses Golola. From the footwork, jab protection and kick execution, Mugula had an upper hand. All talk in town, alongside streets, in offices, in markets, the print, electronic and the social media,  and inevitably in the locker rooms, Moses Golola was looked at as a less talented lad.

He however surprised many as he got all his weaknesses right. His timing was spot on, he was this time more patient to attack and when to withdraw than the previous fights.

Towards the fight of Golola against UPDF soldier, Titus Tugume, Mugula fine tuned Golola especially with kicking, but this time round, it was Mugula teaching Golola how to be kicked, boxed and the number of times Mugula kissed the canvas under the powerfully well executed Golola jabs could be equated to the numerous number of fans inside the Freedom City arena.

2 – A Beaming Golola Confidence:

Over the years, Golola’s big mouth has earned him as many millions of admirers as those who loathe him. For a sport that was virtually extinct, silent and unheard of as a tomb zone, Golola’s gimmicks in press conferences, on radio and television talk shows and lately in the ring (dancing and jigging) have earned the sport world wide publicity.

On Friday, Golola even bought off time to dance in between the bout breaks. He garnered support and confidence that made Mugula a more inferior figure.

From being labelled a German Shepherd, a foreigner, somebody with a lady like hairstyle, to threats of snatching his wife when he Killed him in the ring, Golola mastered the art of marketing, hyping the fight and continuing to underrate his opponent.

3 –Zebra Ssenyange Factor :

To every successful fighters, there are underground trainers and sparring partners. For the last 3 months, boxer Zebra Ssenyange fine tuned Mugula into what he is today. From Positional awareness, jab protection techniques to the kicking and boxing, Ssenyange, popularily known as Mando has done it all.

Against Mugula, Golola attacked fearlessly, he protected his face and body and to cap it all, his timing for the kicks and jabs was spot on.

Infact, Ssenyange himself remarked of Golola’s willingness to learn. “Golola is a great student, in the few weeks we have worked together, he was willing to admit his mistakes and always willing to adjust and do what is right. He has the power, there is noo question about it, the only missing link was how to use the power and he has not disappointed either”, Zebra said of his fighter, Moses Golola, shortly after the victory.

4 – Stage Freight by Mugula :

Right from the official weigh -in event a day before the fight, Mugula like any other human looked a worried man ahead of the big do.

Watching videos on a local television channel, Mugula covered his face as Golola marked a grand entrance at the weighing room.

He stumbled to freely express himself, while Golola thrived on what he does best, to warn and continue intimidating his opponent with an avalanche of words.

The dancing antics of Golola on match day won him the neutral fans who entered the arena, short of which side to sympathize with.

5 – Abrupt weight Gain by Mugula:

When the fight was announced in early February, Moses Golola was 10 kilograms heavier than Mugula on 79 to Counterpart’s 69. By weigh in, Mugula was now the heavier lad with 72.5 kg to Golola’s 72. 3 kg.

Ofcourse, there were a few question marks on the weighing scale used, but Mugula’s weight gain was suspect. He looked slower, and orthodox in the ring.

Congs Moses Golola, thank you Ronald Mugula for honoring the fight and preserving till the last round. Who is next in line for Golola, Your Guess is as good as Mine…..
