For the second year running, Ndejje University won’t take part in the 2014 Jinja Open Championship, as they decide to play on Kenya soil the same weekend. Two time league winners Ndejje Lites and their men’s side Ndejje Sharks left for Malaba Kenya on Frdiay morning to play in the National Open.
“We are not going to participate; we are going to compete,” Ndejje Elites coach Johnson Kawenyera told kawowo.com. “That will help we see the weaknesses in my team, we still have around for weeks before we go to Tunisia, this tournament is as way of preparing the girls,” he added.
The competition will involve top Kenya teams, like Kenya Prisons who have dominated women’s volleyball not only in Kenya but also on the continent for the five years. About the men, Kawenyera believes it’s high time they also stepped up and got to the level of them women.
“The Sharks have potential, we just have to start exposing them now to stronger competition and see how they fair against the local here.” Ndejje’s travel means both their men and women will miss the Jinja Open Championship, which is slated to volleyball off tomorrow.
Ndejje Elites will also start their league defense on April 4 against Nkumba University before the duo travel to Carthage Tunisia on April 17 for the continental showdown.
