The 2014 Africa Rally Champions (ARC) calendar got underway on Friday 14 in Cote d’Ivoire with the Rallye Bandama Cote D’Ivoire.

According to the ARC website, the rally started with a Super Special Stage (SSS) on Friday and gets to the competitive sections today (Saturday) until Sunday.

Legendary rally ace and 1999 ARC winner Charles Muhangi finished day one in 17th position after clocking three minutes and ten seconds (3.10).

Kenya’s Jaspreet Chatthe ended day one in second (2:18) while Rwanda’s Giancarlo Davite (2.29) was eighth.

After this weekend’s event, the ARC season will resume with the Sasol Rally South Africa (April 11-12, 2014), Zambia International Rally (May 16-18, 2014), Rally of Tanzania (June 13-15, 2014), Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally (July 18-20, 2014), Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally (August 15-17, 2014), KCB Safari Rally, Kenya (September 12- 14, 2014) and Madagascar International Rally (November 7-9, 2014)
