The 2014 Bamburi Rugby Super Series has received a massive shot in the arm ahead of the kick-off due on April 26 at Kyadondo rugby grounds with a 20 million sponsorship boost from two corporate companies that is AoN Insurance and Vivo Energy that is Shell licensed.

Vivo Energy sunk 10 million Uganda shillings into the event while AoN Insurance provided the same amount to the series that will attract six teams with two franchises from Uganda that is Rwenzori and Victoria while Kenya will line-up Ndovu, the reigning series champions, Papa, Kifaru and Chui.

Uganda Rugby Union chairman, Andrew Owor said the support of the companies will help cover expenses during training, medical insurance, travel among other expenses.

“Globally we are know to support sports especially with our Manchester United Principle sponsorship. We would like to replicate that success locally,” Geofrey Kamushana, Sales and Marketing Manager of AoN said at the hand over at Kyadondo rugby grounds. “Our 10 million shillings sponsorship package is proof enough that we are well on our way into supporting and growing local sporting activities.”

Kampala will host the all the teams for the opening BRSS tournament from April 27, followed by other matches in Kakamega, Nakuru, Machakos and the finals in Nairobi on June 7.

This year’s tournament is the 12 Bamburi Rugby Super Series abd the sixth in which Uganda is participating.
