Super Light Welter Weight (63.5 kg) Bout: (National Title)

Hamza ‘The Templer’ Ssempewo Vs Dragon Kidega

March 29th March 2014

At Dance floor parking, Natetete

Entry fees: 15,000/= (Ordinary) and 25,000/= (VIP)

As expected, the boxing pre-event customary weigh-in ceremony in Uganda and world over has never disappointed. When professional boxers, Hamza ‘The Templer’ Sempewo and Dragon Kidega came face to face with his opponent for that weigh-in ceremony at Mengo Social center, everybody who was present predicted at least a mockery fist.

Yes, your guess is as good as mine, it happened. The two prized boxers are vying for the vacant Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) super Light weight national title.

“I respect him (Dragon), but he should not even touch that belt” Sempewo warned Kidega as they posed with the fight promoter. In response, Kidega fired back; “Let him have the last feel of that belt, because it will be mine by the close of business tomorrow (Saturday match day fight)”, Kidega responded much to the applause of the fans who came in as witnesses.

The title fell vacant after Solomon Bogere’s failure to defend it. Bogere beat Kidega in 2006 at Little Flowers Bombo Road to win the national title and he again defended it two years later in 2008 stopping Ronny Katwalo with a first round knock out, but he failed to secure a new opponent till the stipulated time in which he has to defend it elapsed, implying the title falls vacant.

Sempewo, who in 2009 threw away the chance to win the then vacant East and Central Africa Super Light Weight belt after he lost to Bogere by unanimous decision will be trying his luck again when he faces Kidega for the national title.

The fight organized by NARA promotions will take place on March 29th at Dance Floor in Nateete. The youthful fighter who record stands at 13 fights with 10 wins (5Kos) and three loses told the local media in an interview that he has upped his training ahead of the much anticipated bout that will be curtain-raised with seven under card fights.

Kalina Pub Kyengera, Newton Hides and Sikns Limited, Samona, Metro FM, Makindye Juinior Schools, Bakresa Spare Parts, Mega Batteries and Classic buthery are the fight sponsors.

The under cards:

Nicolas Buule Vs Mathias Bulega ( Heavy weight)

Mudde Ntambi Vs  Musa Mugisha (Middle weight)

Suuna Wilberforce VS  Frank Kiwalabye (Light heavy)
