The best Ugandan male was Geoffrey Kusuro who beat the tape in 1 hour, 40 micro seconds.
Kusuro is more known for his mountain running exploits where he won a junior gold medal in 2007 and was third in the senior category.
The 25 year old, whose personal best was previously 1:02:46 bettered his record. He was fifth in the national half marathon and has competed in seven worlds cross country championships as a junior and senior runner, two world championships and he is an Olympian.
Lone female ranger, Linet Kibet finished 43rd of the 131 total entries of women who participated in the race.
Another Kenyan, Mary Ngugi won the women’s version in the time of 1:07:43.
Moses Kipsiro, who was originally met to be part of the team missed the event citing ill health prior the championships.
Reactions of team Uganda members:
Kibet : It was a good course. I am used to running in the front. I need more training and experience and I will beat them.
Kusuro: I had to study them. They increased the pace and I could not risk dropping back.
Ayeko: It was my first time to run. I promise to perform better if given an opportunity.
Rotich: It was a good time and good position for us. We were all making our first appearance.
