The Sevens on the Nile rugby tournament will get underway this Friday 18th April, an event that shall showcase 9 local rugby clubs and 3 foreign teams vying for top honours in the seven-a-side format at Dam Waters Rugby Grounds, Jinja.

This particular tournament is a new brand of the Nile fun Rugby that has been held for the last 8 years and intends to serve as a platform for local rugby skills development.

According to the event chairman Edward Ochieng, the fun element to keep rugby fans constantly rewarded and entertained remains, despite the evolution.

“Despite the fact that we have evolved from fun rugby technically, we still maintain the fun element to keep rugby fans constantly rewarded and entertained through our partners and sponsors,” he told Seven On The Nile Organisers.

The event shall involve 12 senior teams that include the Kenya U19 national team and the Rwanda national team and 10 local club sides.

Primary and secondary school rugby competitions set involve 32 schools were also introduced and commence this Thursday 17th April at same venue.
