Four-time league winners and three-time National Club Champions Nkumba University will play in their second Women Africa Club Championship that starts this weekend in Carthage Tunisia. According to www.monitor.co.ug, Nkumba qualified after defeating Ndejje Elites 3-2 to win the National club Championship last year, they earned that ticket to play at the women Africa Club Championship.

Nkumba were working around the clock to raise Shs80m but finally hit the target on Wednesday night by the help of the University’s board of trustees and Bank of Uganda. “After running around the clock to make ends meet, its official we are going to play at the games in Carthage Tunisia,” said Nkumba’s coach Tonny Lakony.

The team will move in two batches, with captains Eunice Amuron and Faridah Namajja traveling with Ndejje Elites on Thursday morning while the second group also flew out on Friday morning.  While Ndejje are going to better their quarter final finish last year, Nkumba  who last played at the games in 2012 are going to gain experience.

“We play in an amateur setting, giving theses players a chance to play at a higher level is the only way they will improve,” Lakony added. Among the players going to Carthage, only Amuron, Namajja, Amina Naluyima Adellah Asimiire and Maureen Kashemire played with the Nkumba at their last continental showpiece in Kenya two years ago.

Players: Eunice Amuron, Faridah Namajja, Astreede Agaaba, Adellah Asimiire, Barbara Akol, Fermia Awor, Amina Naluyima, Flavia Nandawula, Christine Oshabe and Maureen Kashemire.
