Nothing is going to stop Sport-S from winning a record fifth NSSF Volleyball League title. Not even joint record holders; KAVC, who they face this Saturday at the MTN Arena in Lugogo. While Sport-S’ are playing their first game of the season, KAVC are out to avoid their second straight defeat after going down 3-2 to defending champions Nemostars last weekend.
“We are not all about winning the league this season, I just want to perfect a few things in the players,” said KAVC coach Shila Omuriwe. “Though good volleyball means you need to win matches at some stage, so we definitely want to find that rhythm, we have been working on the mistakes that cost us the game against Nemostars.”
“You will definitely see a different KAVC on Saturday,” she added. Before they play Sport-S, KAVC will have that early morning fixture against GAVC at the Mubs ground in Nakaawa. Sport-S will be out to make sure that KAVC don’t frustrate them with their reception and court cover particularly from Joel Endra and Emmanuel Elanyu.
“KAVC is a stubborn team defensively, if we can penetrate their defense on the cover then they won’t be hard to bring down,” said Sport-S coach Benon Mugisha. New signings Ivan Ongom and Dickens Otim are expected to transfer their pre-reason performance to the league together with Libero Stephen Oguti.
“They (Otim and Ongom) can’t play alone but we are looking at them to play a more fundamental role for the team this season especially in the league,” he added. In the ladies, the biggest fixture will be between 2008 winners KAVC when they take on new comers Vision Volleyball Camp.
