Ndejje and Nkumba Universities bowed out of the Africa Women Volleyball Club Championship in Carthage Tunisia with reduced poor rankings but bring back home lots positives. Ndejje lost 3-2 (15-25, 25-14, 25- 25-22, 15-10) to Bafia from Cameroon to finish 12th compared to their eighth position on their maiden appearance in Antananarivo Madagascar last year.
Coach Johnson Kawenyera is impressed with the performance of the team. “I must commend the girls for putting up good fights against teams that looked stronger and superiors in terms on technical abilities,” Kawenyera told kawowo.com .
“It was going to be tough, especially after we were put in a pool with two Arab teams, but we return with wealth of experience” he added. Nkumba who defied odds and made the trip when all hope was lost managed 15, one place below Manga Sport of Gabon 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, and 26-24).
“It is a distant finish but the girls have learnt a lot from this trip” coach Tonny Lakony told uvbf.or. “There was a very thin line between winning and losing in this tournament with exception of the top 4 teams.” “Having a thin squad also undid us a lot but I am impressed with the player’s performance though we need to concrete on consistent during play” he added.
