To every successful sporting icon, there lies a secret code to his or her success script.

For Australian Tennis legend, Margaret Court, winner of 24 singles’ games, 19 women’s doubles and 21 mixed doubles totaling to 64 major titles, it is the will power and the self-belief that inspired her.

“I loved what I did.” “The countless hours of training and determination to play against all odds made me a winner”, Court, who is on a week’s visit to Uganda, told Kawowo Sports.

Court, the only woman to win the mixed doubles Grand Slam (won it on 2 occasions) praises the level of dedication of the tennis fraternity in Uganda, “I believe the future of Uganda’s tennis lies among the youth.” “Once these young lads are shown the way at the infantry stage, then surely Uganda is on the right track”, she added.

The great tennis star arrived in Uganda accompanied by her husband Barry and tennis coach Mathew Carlie and will conduct several tennis clinics at Lugogo and outside Kampala. She is set to host a special luncheon at the Lugogo Tennis courts on Wednesday afternoon with a presentation to the media and tennis fraternity entitled “Effective sports administration and management for producing world class African athletes”.

Court, a devoted Christian will also buy off time to preach the Gospel before she will depart Uganda on Sunday. Her visit to Uganda was coordinated by the Robert Kayanja Ministries. Court last visited Uganda 45 years ago as a 26 year old.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
