Vision Volleyball Camp (VVC) will have another chance to show that they can contend with the big girls not only in the open tournaments but also the league. VVC who have won four open tournaments out of five face Nkumba in the women’s NSSF Volleyball League tie today in Lugogo.
The Namboole based side lost 3-2 to Ndejje Elites in the latter’s league opener and will approach Friday’s game desperate to avoid a second defeat. Viola ‘Shosho’ Akisa was the orchestrator behind Nkumba’s four league titles, but she is now skippering VVC as they quest for their maiden league success on their first time of asking.
“We know Nkumba is a good team especially on the back court defense, but we don’t have pressure going into the Friday (today) game,” said Shosho. “We are going to play them hard, because we also know they are coming to play hard,” she added.
Nkumba are coming off a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Ndejje Elites and still the absence of coach Tony Lakony on their bench might take a lot away from them. “I won’t say we are playing poor because of Coach’s (Lakony) absence, we have won games before without him and am sure if we come with the right approach against VVC, we will come out on top,” said Nkumba captain Eunice Amuron.
“As a team we have addressed the issues affecting us, we hope to be better against VVC, than we did play against Ndejje,” she added. Lakony’s absence is not likely to affect the Nkumba women but also their men’s side Nkumba Navy who face Sport-S in the men’s tie immediately after the women’s fixture.
