SC Victoria University [Uganda] VS Mbeya City [Tanzania]

Al Ahli Shandi [Sudan] VS Malakia [South Sudan]

Uganda’s Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) approaches today’s Nile Basin Quarterfinal duel against Tanzania’s Mbeya City without midfield gem, Muzamiru Mutyaba.

Mutyaba, who saw red in the last group game against Zanzibar’s Polisi f.c was sent off for a second bookable offence, that followed a dive in the box.

In Mutyaba’s absence, Yasser Mugerwa, who was rested in the last game is set to fill in the void.Jackson Kibirige, who had a stunning performance with a brace against Polisi is expected to hold onto his place while goalie, Benjamin Ochan and defender Murushid Jjuuko return to the starting team having been left out in the last group game.

In the opening quarterfinal matches played on Friday, pre tournament favourites, Al Merreikh were eliminated out of the tourney after a 3 -2 penalty shoot out outcome that followed a one all draw in normal time.

SCVU will also miss Noah Ssemakula (Injury) and three of their Uganda Cranes players, Savio Kabugo, Denis Iguma and left back Isaac Muleme.

Kenyan representatives, AFC Leopards eased through to the semifinals with a 3-2 win over Ethiopian side Defence in a match played at the Al-Merreikh in Khartoum.

Skipper Paul Were dribbled past three defenders but was brought down in the box, Leopards winning a penalty. The speedy winger stepped up and sent Defence custodian the wrong way to open the scoring.

Hardworking Noah Wafula doubled the lead just before the break with a superb goal. Jackson Saleh was replaced by Mike Khamati after he sustained a hamstring injury.

The winners of the tournament will bag USD. 60,000, with the runners up taking USD.30,000 and the second runners up bagging USD.10,000.
