Ivan Kanyesigye is nicknamed ‘Kasiiru’ because he is unable to speak and hear.
He is among the most flamboyant and attack minded pool players in the country.
What he misses in communication is ably compensated by his prowress on the pool table.
“We expect him to perform well after he narrowly missed qualification for the last two years”, Tumwesigye, manager at the Capital Pub in Kabalagala says.
Kanyesigye, a player for champions, Scrap Yard will however play from premier pub in Kansanga after trying to qualify at Capital Pub on two occassions but in vain.
This will be the second week of Nile Special National pool championships after last weekend’s regional qualifiers in Masaka, Luwero, Mubende, Mukono and Entebbe.
“The Regionals that strated in Buganda last week are this week going to see nine(9) players joining the fifteen (15) who qualified last weekend”, PAU publicity secretary, Michael Mawanda.
Among the participants at Capital Pub will be Perfection Pool club captain Nelson Bukenya.
He will battle for the top honours with David ‘Musota’ Owori and Richard ‘Nigeria’ Onen.
The duo were the finalists were made it at the same venue last year.
Bukenya played the min-qualifiers at Gemima Pub Kabalagala and looks to put a goal challenge to Onen and Owori.
On Saturday, the regionals will head to Najanankumbi Stella and here, all eyes will be on Isaac Lwanga, Uzairu Kamoga, Kato Keita, Rotex’s Paul Kawooya and Lubiri pool club’s Chris Buye.
The winner of each region will take 150,000/= and a medal while the first runner up will take 100,000/= and the second runner up will go back home with 50,000/= from Nile Special.
“120 players are the players who are going to pass through the regionals to the grand finals. Then the top 8 seeded players will join at the finals”, Mawanda adds.
Pool Association of Uganda ‘PAU’ exclusively organizes this event the biggest on the local calendar as Nile Breweries under the champion brand, Nile Special bank rolls it.
The national finals, whose winner will drive home with a brand new Toyota Brevis, a pool table and Ug.shs 2M will be held on 6th September 2014 at Lugogo Indoor stadium.
Jona ‘Joker’ Turigye is the defending champion.
