Kira Young Vs Nkumba Select – Lido Beach
It will be a clash of the Titans as Beach soccer defending Champions, Kira Young faces fierce rivals Nkumba Select in the opening game of the 2014/15 National beach soccer league at Lido beach in Entebbe.
The two sides faced off in the finals of the previous season and Kira had the last smile with a 5 – 4 triumph.
“The opening day has been set for 24th August 2014”, Uganda beach Soccer Association (UBSA) organizing secretary, Charles Ssemanda Nandigobe told the media at a special press briefing held at Athina House in Kololo on Friday.
16 teams (8 apiece of the Moonson and Hurriken groups) will participate in the league bank rolled by Crown Beverages under the Pepsi brand.
3 new teams have been promoted. These are Talented f.c, Entebbe United and YMCA replacing the relegated, Zai Plaza, Fisheries Training Institute and Kabalagala Rangers.
“We appeal to all stake holders to join hands together as we take the game of beach football to a another level. Infact, we shall have a competitive league because the competition for slots on the national sand Cranes will be evident ahead of next year’s AFCON beach soccer tourney in Seychelles”, Deo Mutabaazi, President of UBSA remarked.
The Beach soccer association also released the calendar for the forth coming season with 9 major events.
The leagues (men and women), FIFA referees and Coaches coach, Media Seminar and gala, University and Schools’ tournaments, Youth cup, Copa Entebbe, Corporate beach soccer and next year’s CAF African Championships are the events planned.
FUFA delegate in charge of Beach Soccer, Anthony Tumwesigye appealed to teams to prepare adequately ahead of the forthcoming season.
