Out of the 21 points Uganda scored against Kenya in the first leg of the ninth Elgon Cup, 11 of those came off the boot of number nine Kevin Makmot.
He however missed five off a penalty and a conversion after Bishop Onen had touched down to give Uganda the lead 8-7. “When I wasn’t getting it right the coach came and talked to me and told me to calm down. I have one minute and 30 seconds”, Makmot told Kawowo Sports.
Onen had also missed the second penalty for Uganda when the game was still 0-0. But it wasn’t the kicks alone that Uganda struggled at, whenever they had Kenya’s back-line under their skin, they failed to hold onto that ball. “We didn’t get time to run the ball. Our ball handling was poor,” he added.
Coach Peter Magona also believes that they have a lot of work to do going into the return leg. “We want to go and complete the job in Kenya,” Magona said. “Kickers get better with their confidence and we going to work on the kicks and we will have more options than Kevin,” he added.
