Adama City (Ethiopia) 1-4 Azam FC (Tanzania)
Tanzania Vodacom Premier league champions Azam FC have confirmed their slot in the last eight of this year’s CECAFA Kagame Cup in a classic fashion after hammering Ethiopia’s Adama City 4-1 in a one sided game played at Nyamirambo.
The Bakhresa sponsored club went ahead in the 29th minute thanks to Rafael Bocco’s header but despite their dominance, they fell level with six minutes to half time after a howler by goalie Mwadini Ally allowed Desaleny Debesh to hit the equaliser.
With the game ending level at half time, Azam FC came out the better side in the second period and retook the lead inside ten minutes when Didier Kavumbagu headed home Erasto Nyoni’s cross from the left flank.
Five minutes, Khamis Mcha Khamis made it 3-1 for the Tanzanian side before Ivorian import Kipre Herman Tche Tche put the icing on the cake with his first of the tourney and Tanzania’s fourth on the day.
Victory means Azam FC leapfrogs Rayon Sport into first place on the table with eight points though the Rwanda champions will finish top if they beat South Sudan’s Atlabara in the ongoing game at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Adama City’s loss implies that Leo Adraa’s team is through to the next round regardless of the outcome of their match against Rayon Sport.
