Event: U15 All Africa Badminton Tournament
Place: Lugogo Indoor Stadium
Date: From 24th – 31st August 2014

The Ebola disease claiming people’s lives in some West African countries has sturdily upset the organizers of the 5th edition of the U-15 All Africa Badminton championship.

The juniors’ championship that is scheduled in Uganda at Lugogo Indoor stadium, from 24th-31 August, has seen fewer entries of participating countries than earlier expected.

Talking to Kawowo Sports, Simon Mugabi one of the event’s organizers said that the Ebola disease in the West African countries has threatened teams to meet their promises of attending this event.

“The Ebola outbreak in West Africa has seriously affected the entries to this junior tournament. We were expecting a big turn up early this year but many countries have turned down participation”. Mugabi said.

South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, Seychelles and Algeria are the African countries that will be attending the tournament.

However, Mugabi expects Mauritius players to jet in today (Friday), South Africans (tomorrow) while Zambians, Kenyans, Zimbabweans and Botswana are likely to fly in over the weekend.

Uganda will be represented by Dennis Onyango, Expedito Emuddu, Aatin Thayani and Muzafaru Lubega and others in the boys’ categories, whilst in the ladies category, Salma Mutesi, Tracy Naluwoza and Rehema Nakalema will Uganda’s flag bearers at the event.
