The Changawa siblings claimed the lucrative Rak Tie Break Tennis championship at the Lugogo tennis center on Saturday evening at the Jamal Ramji center court in Kampala.

Ismail Changawa, was a 9-7, 7-4, 8-10, 2-6, 7-3 hard fought winner over Duncan Mugabe in a intense final that was held at the Jamal Ramji center court in Lugogo with both players getting thunderous cheers from a packed arena.

The 18 year old player who celebrated his birthday on Friday took command of the game early winnng the first two sets, but falling in the third and fourth sets, but bouncing back and claiming the decisive set and beating Mugabe the second time.

“I feel gracious in winning and beating Mugabe again, he really gave me a good fight and he is a great player,” Changawa said. “I had to battle hard for this game.

Changawa had earlier beaten Mugabe in June to claim the Kenya Open in Nairobi, Kenya and now has a 2-0 head to head record over him.

Mugabe, was disappointed and angry with the fans who cheered for the Kenyan “I disappointed in the manner the way the fans reacted to my game no were in the world would a home country support a player of another country,” a disappointed Mugabe said. “How are we going to patriotic in this country and then you are supporting the opposition this is bad example to the future tennis players of this country.”

His sibling Shufa Changawa had earlier wrapped up the ladies crown beating Asfa Nanyingi 7-4, 7-3 to win the $1,000(sh2.5m) and trophies.

The Boys U-18 had Edward Birungi beat Boris Aguma 7-2, 7-2 while Daphne Mukasa was a 7-2, 7-4 winner over Saidati Kemigisha 7-2, 7-4.

The main sponsor was Rak Ceramics while the other sponsors were Riham, Quick Color Print, Eye Care Centre, Seyani Brothers, Victoria University HealthCare Centre, Eye Care Centre, Asiatic Sports, Jaffery Forex Bureau Limited, Nawab Restaurant and Aramex.
