Kololo S.S emerged winners of the Schools Independence Rugby Cup on Thursday after edging Hana Mixed 07-05 in the main cup final of the tournament at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.
This triumph marked the second time Kololo has carried the day against Hana Mixed this year, having defeated them 11-10 in the Under-19 schools rugby championships final in early April.
Both sides scored a try apiece, the difference being the trusty boot of James Ijiongat, a conversion that sealed Kololo’s victory. Robert Masendi scored Hana Mixed’s try while Michael Omolo notched the other for Kololo.
The competition got underway at 8am with a series of encounters that saw Kololo S.S thrash Makerere College and Creamland 29-00 and 34-07 respectively, before making it to the quarter finals where they defeated Greenhill Academy 50-00.
On the other hand, Hana Mixed defeated Turkish Academy 24-00, Crown City 45-00, and Rainbow 62-00, progressing from the group stage to the quarter final. The gallant players further overcame Oxford to head for the main cup semi final with an impressive 43-00 victory.
Kololo S.S were 24-00 winners over Namilyango as St. Mary’s College Kisubi lost 21-00 to Hana Mixed in the main cup semi finals. Elsewhere, Creamland came third thanks to their Plate final 10-00 triumph over Mbale’s Oxford High.
