Standard Chartered Bank has kick-started the She Cranes Netball World Cup fundraising campaign this morning at there head offices on Speke Road by opening an account and offering 5 million shillings to the Uganda Netball Association ahead of the tournament to be held in Australia, next year.

“We felt touched by the circumstances that the She Cranes encountered during the World Cup qualifiers recently and that is why we decided to offered 5 million shillings to kick-start there campaign to play at the World Cup,” Herbert Zake, the Head of Corporate Affairs at Standard Chartered Bank said at the brief ceremony held at there offices.  “It’s the She Cranes determination will that made us get interested in this campaign and we strongly belief that they can go on and win the world cup, but at the same time we would look to see more people and companies coming out to sponsor them.”

The She Cranes won all there 4 games at the World Cup qualifiers recently in Botswana and qualified to next Netball World Cup in Australia a feat they last accomplished in 1979.

“We are grateful to Standard Chartered Bank for this offer and kick-starting our journey to the World Cup,” Jocelyn Uchanda the She Cranes team manager said at the ceremony that was also attended by Uganda Sports Press Association President Mark Namanya. “This sponsorship will lead us to success and we cannot fail.”

The World Cup will be held from August 7-16 in Sydney Australia.
