Tues, 23rd December 2014: Kira Vs Victoria University – Namboole Stadium (4:30 p.m)
Both Kira Young F.C and Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) have had different tales of scripts to account for their dismissal start of the season.
These two sides, which host their home games at the Nelson Mandela Stadium square off in what is dubbed the ‘Namboole Derby’.
SCVU are last season’s defending champions, but linger in a distant 10th position, 19 points off the leaders, Vipers F.C.
Suspect players’ discipline and administration wrangles at the club have tore the once cherished club apart.
Early injury to the leading striker Mathew Odong, indefinite suspension of goal keeper, Benjamin Ochan, defenders, Denis Iguma and Murushid Jjuuko has left the club in total tatters.
Last week, against Sadolin Paints F.C, the team had just 2 players on the bench after several of them were involved in the just concluded Eastern Africa University games at Mukono.
Head Coach, Morley Byekwaso reasons aside from the poorly motivated staff, the players themselves had lacked the belief and will power to ‘squeeze’ for positive results.
Sometimes in football, you put aside the domestic woes and concentrate to pick crucial results which is not the case at the club now
Kira Young F.C themselves have almost had the same script written in bold. Majority of the club players have gone months surviving on allowances and only dream of monthly wages.
At the moment, they linger on the peripheries of the relegation zone in 13th place with just 12 points fetched along the way.
Team skipper, Baker Lukooya acknowledges they have had a terrible first round and believes they can pull the strings in the second round as he urges;
We have lost many games in the first round which we would not have lost. But hopefully, we make quick amends in the next round
At the start of the season, Kira Young acquired two experienced coaches in Paul ‘Latest’ Nkata and Moses Basena but have done little as far as player recruitment is concerned.
As the Namboole derby far approaches on Tuesday, it looks to be seen, which side is better prepared to triumph majestically.
SCVU still has a striker crisis with defender; Savio Kabugo sacrificed in many games to lead the line alongside David Ndihabwe or Farouk Kawooya.
Isaac Muleme is still sidelined with an ankle injury as usual Brian Ochwo will take over the role the left back role.
Team skipper, Martin Mpuuga is still sidelined after picking red against SC Villa with Hamuza Delu expected to fit in Mpuuga’s shoes as Kabugo takes over the captainancy role.
Kira Young welcomes back, captain Lukooya (ankle) and a crop of players who have been engaged in the East African Games.
