Sadolin Mongers coach Robert Powell has admitted his side will need to start winning their Nile Special Uganda Rugby Premiership matches after succumbing to loss for the third time in 2015.
Mongers lost 15-16 to Ezee Money Rhinos at Entebbe Rugby Grounds in their recent outing on Saturday and Powell blamed it on the lacklustre performance of his boys that condemned them to mid table mediocrity.
“They forgot the script and lost a game they could and should have won,” he told Kawowo Sport’s Edgar Kazibwe.
“Mongers significantly contributed to their own downfall, early in the first half and the situation was no better in the lineouts where the team lost more than they won principally through poor throwing as kicks to touch missed their target.”
“It was a pretty lacklustre performance which has now brought the boys from Entebbe from Title contenders to mid table mediocrity and we have to find a way to win games and do it fast.”
Powell also decried the “awful” officiation at weekend encounter that saw them lose their first match at the dreaded house of Pain in Entebbe.
“To be honest they were not helped by the quality of refereeing from an official who would have been overwhelmed at an U-13 game,” he continued.
“Short by one official a spectator ran one of the touchlines whilst 3 qualified URU referees watched from the crowd.
“It was a hard fought contest by 2 very closely matched teams and which deserved a better standard of officiating.”
Powell listed the obvious errors, the day’s referee ignored.
“A head high tackle in the act of scoring a try surely warrants a penalty try and a possible yellow card – Nothing.
“Deliberately throwing the ball off the field of play in order to prevent a try being scored – penalty offence possible yellow card – Nothing.
“A scrum half who repeatedly climbs over a flanker and then tries to kick the ball from under the feet of the opposition #8 whilst the ball in the scrum – not sanctioned on one single occasion.”
“Same scrum half failed to put the ball in straight all afternoon and even when her touch judge mentioned during the first half drinks break he was ignored by the referee.”
According to the coach, Mongers will however move on as they plan to face Heathens at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Saturday.
They will be seeking their first win in 2015 having lost three matches in a row. Heathens are yet to lose in their last five Premiership games.
