Ivory Coast government has rewarded the National football team with millions of dollars and houses for each player in appreciation for the their efforts that saw them win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

The Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara gave each member of the 23-man squad a house worth $52,000 (£34,000) and the same amount in cash according to the government.

Ivory Coast defeated Ghana 9-8 on penalties in the final of the continental showpiece in Bata, Equatorial Guinea. Goalkeeper Boubacar Barry was their hero as he saved Razak’s penalty before slotting the winning past the fellow shot stopper.

From his presidential palace, Alassane Ouattara on Sunday night declared Monday a national paid holiday so fans could welcome the team back home.

Ouattara welcomed the stars in fashion at the airport before heading the motorcade driving them around commercial capital Abidjan. He reportedly had also earlier awarded the Elephant players each a bonus of 90,000 euros ($100,000) on Tuesday.
