Preparations for the inaugural Walukuba women seven’s (7) tournament have been completed with 6 teams confirming participation.
According to the tournament organizer, Duncan ‘Dolphin’ Kirya, the tournament’s main aim is to unearth more rugby talents among the young women rugby players.
“The tournament has been organized to help spot (identify) new rugby talents among the young ladies as well as helping the eventual development of the discovered talent” Kirya confirms to Kawowo Sports.
Some of the junior teams in the event will include; Baby Panthers, Dam Waters Crocs, Entebbe Sharks and Police Tear Gas Rangers.
There are two senior teams for the event that will be held on an annual basis. These include the home side, Walukuba Panthers and Walukuba Titans.
Buoyed by Emmanuela Oroma, Peace Wokoracch, Nancy Anyango, Emily Lekuru, the home side is expected to stage a spirited fight against the experienced Shark Panthers.
Kirya asserts that the tournament is also a preparatory event for the upcoming 8th March 2015 tournament that will take place in Busia next weekend as part of the celebrations to usher in the international women’s day.
The fixtures will run on a round robin basis at Walukuba play grounds in Jinja District.
