World Mountain Running Champion, Geoffrey Kusuro has romped to third place and set a new National Record at the International Roma-Ostia 2015 Half Marathon in Rome, Italy.
The Ugandan crossed the line in a record 59.43 behind Kenyans winner Robert Chermosin with a world leading 59.19 time and second placed Simon Cheprot 59.37.
For the third consecutive year, the top three all dipped under the one-hour barrier at the IAAF Gold label Road race. Kusuro who jetted home on Monday afternoon said the sunny environment was good for him.
I am excited setting a new National record. I can not complain at all. The weather was good and route flat. My biggest challenge was to keep the pace with the two Kenyan leaders. We ran together until the 20km when I failed to contain the finishing speed of my opponents.
The former world champion said he will immediately report to residential camp in Bukwo to concentrate on the World Cross Country preparations. A squad of 16 runners are already in Bukwo training camp for the World Cross Country due March 28, 2015 in Guiyang, China.
