Ugandan tennis youngster Jonah Wafula, is dreaming of taking over the thrones of top tennis stars Duncan Mugabe and David Oringa as well of becoming a professional tennis player.
Wafula, is enrolled into a tennis development programme in Albany, Oregon and is being supported by Sarah Roome, who spotted him when she was working in Uganda in Mbale last year.
“We spotted Jonah last year while I was teaching a beginner tennis class to some local kids in a secondary school in Mbale and when we gave him the chance too hit some balls the others we were very impressed with him and decided that we would give him the chance to improve of his game in the USA,” Sarah Roome, who is supporting the Ugandan player said in an e-mail. “Our mission was to have enroll with a tennis programme which would enable him improve his alround game.”
Wafula becomes the third Ugandan tennis youngster pursuing a tennis programme from the United States of America the others are John Lutaya in South Carolina and Henry Ayesiga in California
Wafula was awarded a two year scholarship from a local High School commencing September 2015. This will enable him to complete his education and graduate in the U.S. He will continue to live with Kirk Lunstrum and Sarah Roome.
