It was the same script but with a different ending as Kyambogo FC were eliminated out of the Uganda Cup by KCC FC at the quarterfinal stage in Kyambogo on Sunday.
Hakim Ssekumba lost possession in his owns half 40 minutes into the games, Kyambogo’s Brian Kayemba reacted fastest.
Kayemba beat Ssaka Mpiima and Ayub Kiiza with pace before sending a ground thunderbolt that KCC custodian Benjamin Ochan could do little to stop.
Before all that though, Kyambogo were the better side the entire first half, enjoying possession for long spells on top of creating chances but their ability to make it count left a lot to be desired.
Three minutes into the second stanza, KCC tried to better their first canto performance, with Herman Wasswa utilizing the through passes from Owen Kasule and Hakim Ssekumba but always not going past Etyang Joseph, whose game reading was up there.
It was Wasswa’s pass that got Baker Lukooya that tempted goalkeeper Joseph Etyang to foul the latter, Wasswa made no mistake from 12 yards.
Three minutes to full time, Wasswa looped Etyang and while the first assistant referee was running back to the center line and all KCC fans and officials raising their hands in celebration, Tom Mugabe cleared the ball for a corner.
As the full time whistle was blown after extra time, the loud cheers from the fans painted a picture that Kyambogo had made to the semis.
They have eliminated Vipers and Sadolin in similar fashion at their home tough. But they had reached the finish line, as Wasswa scored his, Ochan saved Emma Ocheng’s, to give KCCA the advantage.
Kasule it 2-0, before Wilberforce Sanya converted Kyambogo’s only spot kick to make it 2-1, Joseph Ochaya as calm as they come for KCC, 3-1.
It was Etyang’s turn to give Kyambogo some hope, his effort was mistaken for a goal kick as he blasted it over the bar.
Isaac Ntege was the hero as a demoralized Etyang could do little to stop his teasing attempt for KCC to win 4-1.
The 2004 Uganda CUp winners will wait for the semifinal that will be conducted on Wednesday at Fufa House, they could play on of Bul FC, Lweza or SC Villa.
