When he joined Nkana FC from KCC FC in 2014, most thought temperamental striker Tonny Odur had finally matured and took a professional path.

However, as it looks, the more things change, the more they remain the same for the once promising striker who broke to scenes a decade ago at Express FC.

Arguably one of Uganda’s most talented centre forwards, Odur has failed to live to the billing. At one time, he was referred to as the new ‘Hassan Mubiru’ – another of the best strikers Uganda has ever produced and a legend in the game by all standards.

But indiscipline meant that his career remains stagnant thanks to his ‘big head’- He always insulted coaches right from Express, Vipers (then Bunamwaya) and at KCC FC where he faced multiple suspensions but without change.

KCC FC let him go to Nkana after his impressive show in the 2014 CAF Champions league campaign where he netted three goals in four matches including one against the Zambian side away in Lusaka.

To Nkana, they had gotten their man but close to a year later, it seems they do regret the signing.

Odur hasn’t made a double figure of appearances for the former Zambia champions thanks to injuries, poor form and indiscipline.

“He’s been a disappointment,” one Zambian soccer writer who preferred anonymity told Kawowo Sports.  “All he does is drink alcohol and his form dipped partly due to this vice. The fans that cherished him nearly beat him up recently urging him to improve,” he added.

If drinking and then being addicted to women isn’t enough, Odur last week insulted the team manager Jeremiah Chishimba.

The manager had a word with him concerning his behavior but in front of fellow players and fans at the team’s training, he insulted him. Even fans’ pleas to Tonny (Odur) to apologise were futile.

Since moving to Zambia, Odur resides at the Greek Olive Hotel in Kitwe and is likely to be shown exit at the end of the season.

Available statistics show the striker has netted just once in a competitive fixture for Nkana since his move in 2014.
