After two rounds of play at the Rugby Africa Tier 1B Tournament, Uganda is steadily holding onto the top spot with sights on Tier 1A.
The rugby Cranes pulled off a 40-11 Victory over Ivory Coast on Sunday but Senegal’s 42-3 win over Mauritius gave the West African an edge over Uganda in the final table standings.
With Uganda, Senegal and Madagascar all on five points, Senegal had a better point difference (PD), 39 compared to Uganda’s 29; Madagascar’s PD was on 18.
All three countries came into day two on Wednesday with eyes on the number one slot, Uganda labored but eventually managed a decent win (35-11) off Mauritius.
Uganda’s hopes of another shot at Tier 1A depended on Botswana shocking Senegal, and in a bid to fight the relegation Monster, Botswana won the game 26-21.
Senegal’s PD stood (39), relegated to third on the six team log while Uganda with a second straight bonus point ascended to the summit with 10 points and their PD shooting to 53.
Uganda play Botswana in their last game on Saturday, Madagascar who are second with nine points and a PD of 22 take on Mauritius.
Mauritius will be looking at how they can avoid the relegation monster, currently on zero points, their PD (-63) is also worrying.
Ivory Coast are second last on the log with no point, their PD is -33, and in a bid to survive relegation, Ivory Coast play Senegal who have a slim chance in heaven to qualify for Tier 1A ahead of Madagascar and Uganda.
