New Zealand Vs Uganda 11:20am (Ugandan Time)
Uganda She Cranes take on netball heavyweights and the undefeated New Zealand Silver Ferns on Friday in their last game of Pool E but there will be nothing to lose.
The She Cranes hopes of making the semifinal were ended by the Sunshine Girls on Wednesday after losing 59-47 despite a big second quarter.
Peace Proscovia struggled to get the grip of the game against Jamaica but will be pivotal in the She Cranes’ forward line as she tries to move around New Zealand defense to get Uganda the goals.
Racheal Nanyonga was on fire against Jamaica and a similar output will be expected from the Goal Attack.
Wing Attack cum centre Ruth Meeme will most likely be matched up against Laura Langman, a challenge Meeme will need to overcome from the start of the match as she has been a prime feeder into the She Cranes’ shooters throughout the tournament.
Silver Ferns’ coach, Waimarma Taumaunu will have Maria Tutaia and Jodi Brown to choose on who should start in the Goal Attack position. Brown played for three quarters against Malawi.
Uganda’s defense will have to keep a close eye on the movement and flight of goal shooter Bailey Mes around the goal circle. Goal Keeper, Florence Nanyonga will need to muster the challenge from the get go.
Nanyonga was troubled by Romelda Aiken when she came on in the second half for Jamaica and will be up for an even tougher challenge.
The meeting between New Zealand and Uganda will be the first ever between these sides.
In the other Pool E fixture, Jamaica will take on Malawi in a fierce game as both teams look make the semifinal. A win for either side will earn them a place in the last four.
There will be a similar scenario in the match-up between England and South Africa in Pool F where hosts Australia who take on Wales already qualified. England and South Africa will be battling for the remaining place.
