The Zimbabwe Sevens Rugby team, Cheetahs will be part of this year’s Safari Sevens tournament that will be played in Nairobi, Kenya after a statement released by Kenya Rugby Union confirmed their acceptance.

The Union confirmed their invitation on their website on Sunday together with that of HSBC World Sevens Series top teams Portugal and Argentina.

Uganda was also invited alongside the England Saxons, Spain, Brazil Italy and debutantes England Sevens Development squad.

The KRU statement read: “Sevens World Series core team Argentina is among a host of teams that have confirmed their participation at the 20th edition of the Safari Sevens set for October 2-4 at the Safaricom Stadium in Nairobi.

“Another core side, Portugal, will also be at Kasarani in their quest for the Robin Cahill trophy while other sides of note that have confirmed participation include Kenya’s African rivals Zimbabwe and Uganda as well as European national sides Italy and Spain and Rio 2016 Olympic hosts Brazil.”

Zimbabwe last participated in this particular tournament in 2011 having lost the Plate final. They reached the final of the very first edition in 1996 plus 2006 and 2007.

Uganda will return to the showpiece having lost the Shield final last year to Golden Lions 26-14. The Rugby Cranes scored a total of 100 points, conceding 114.
