Africa’s top badminton star Edwin Ekiring might be struggling to get success on court but his World Badminton Federation Ranking just can’t stop getting better.

The Ugandan’s ranking shot to 76th in the world, his best ranking ever which also brightens his chances at the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Summer Olympics, which will be a third straight appearance at the games.

Ekiring achieved the feat after his semifinal finish at the Ethiopian International collecting 1750 Points in the process.

At the moment Ekiring has 20573 points compared to his close rival on the continent Jacob Maliekal who has managed to accumulate 19134 points, the latter is ranked 84th in the world.

It’s a great feeling to see that my ranking is improving each passing week despite my not so good run in tournaments

Ekiring told Kawowo Sports from Nigeria where he will launch his title defense of the Nigerian International in Abuja starting on Tuesday.

There is need to step up, I can’t sit back and get contented with the current achievements, I want more and will continue to work to make sure my ranking continues to get better

Ekiring has played 230 career matches winning 129 and losing only 101, this year alone he has played 25 winning 13 and losing 12.

I still have a number of tournaments to play and good results will continue not only to better my rankings but also my stats

The other Ugandan flying the flag high is Shamim Bangi in the women ranking, she has managed to maintain her fourth position on the African ranking 11466 point, and she is currently 142 in the world.
