Thomas Kjellgren, beat a strong field of 120 golfers over two days to claim the Serena Golf Day that was being played at the newly opened par 70 Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort off Entebbe road on the weekend.
Kjellgren returned to the club house with 34 points and was the overall winner in this tournament that had a few golfers sink their balls in the lake. Chinese Lim Mi Sung, was the ladies winner with 34 points.
“I just kept my ball on the fairway and made sure I was not aiming for the water hazards,” Kjellgren said. “It feels good to win on this course it’s got a magnificent outlay that is great for any golfer.”
Patrick Mugisha, Flavia Namakula, Monica Ntege, Eva Magala, Davis Kashaka, were all runners-up and won complementary awards by the various Serena Hotels in the East African region.
The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort will later be up-graded to a 18 hole course in the future. The new course was built according to the United States Golf Association standards.
The course is a par 70 consisting of 6 par 4’s, 2 par 3’s and 1 par 5 it also includes 10 lake hazards with a total of 31. It will be upgraded to a par 72 course after the completion of the remaining 9 holes with a total of 6,725 meters(7354 yards) and will have 10 par 4’s, 4 par 5’s and 4 par 3’s.
She has a total of 17 lakes with 7 being used for the 9 holes so far.
