Uganda Boxing Federation president Kenneth Gimugu has revealed that he is hoping for a successful journey to the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil for Uganda Boxers after eight were shortlisted for the qualifiers.

The Rio Olympic Games qualifiers get underway on March 9-13 in Yaounde, Cameroon and Gimugu has already alerted the boys of this, their remaining shot at the championships to make themselves names and do Uganda proud.

“This is a chance for our boxers to try their luck and qualify for the Olympic Games to take place in Brazil,” he told Xinhua.

A repeat of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China is what the team is targeting, a showpiece that saw Ronald Serugo feature, representing the nation at the international stage.

Selected team for the qualifiers: Mutebi Umar (Light fly weight 49Kg), Marvin Omomdi (Flyweight 52Kg), Antnus Mugerwa (Bantamweight 56Kg), Sula Segawa (Lightweight 60Kg), Tony Mukiibi (Light Welterweight 64Kg), Muzamir Kakande (Welterweight 69Kg), Reagan Segawa (Middleweight 75Kg) and Willy Kyakonye (Heavyweight 91Kg).
