Maroons 0-2 Lweza

Lweza FC boosted their chances of staying up in the Uganda Premier League while synchronously diminishing Maroons hopes of surviving relegation.

The visitors out muscled the hosts in a game played at Luzira Prisons Ground. Maroons came into the match knowing that anything other than 3 points would leave them in despair.

Michael Kalanda’s well taken header in the 28th minute and Fred Kalanzi’s goal in the 66th minute indeed actualized Maroons’ nightmare .

What started as an end to end encounter eventually ended in favour of Lweza.

Lweza’s play of high balls especially in the first half proved dreadful to the home side and this eventually rewarded the Oranje boys, when Maroons’ shambolic defence failed to deal with Kalyowa’s corner that met a well positioned Kalanda who headed home the opener.

Maroons reacted positively and should’ve found the back of the net in the 35th minute through Yahya Luuti’s hard shot but got unlucky when the woodwork came to the rescue of the visitors .

The second half started with Maroons’ spirits still high, and again should’ve salvaged themselves but were still denied celebrations, this time by goalkeeper Charles Lukwago’s heroics. The custodian punched Luuti’s shot over the bar.

Lweza regained possession and launched numerous attacks through their quartet of Kalanzi, Kalyowa, Paddy and Bagala whose dazzling speed troubled the opposite defenders.

The Oranje boys were soon rewarded. Paddy made a superb run and passed to Kalanzi who was flanked by two Maroons defenders but the forward intelligently slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Kalyowa who set up the opener could have also recorded his name on the score sheet but the midfielder couldnt find an empty net after successfully going past the goalkeeper.

The loss leaves Maroons rooted at the bottom of the table with just 9 points.
