Father to the ailing former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper (Abel Dhaira), Bright Dhaira has confirmed the health of his son is deteriorating.
Speaking to Kawowo Sports from Jinja, Dhaira senior said, the family is in touch with the ailing goalkeeper through a family member, Oliver Mbakira who is in Iceland where the patient is.
“He (Abel Dhaira) wanted to speak to Oliver before he went to life support system but it was not possible. Mbakira says the condition is not any better. He needs everyone’s prayers and whichever support” the father said on Monday.
A family friend, Herbert Odipio, a player with BUL Football Club has confirmed there will be prayers at the family residence in Walukuba, Jinja town on Good Friday.
“The family, footballing friends and other well wishers have organised prayers for Abel Dhaira on Good Friday at his father’s residence in Walukuba-Jinja. We expect all friends of football, coaches, senior players and administrators to be part of these special prayers,” Odipio confirmed.
Abel Dhaira has a running contract with Iceland premier league club, IBV Vestmannaeyjar.
He previously featured for Express Fc, URA FC, Simba in Tanzania, and two stints at IBV Vestmannaeyjar.
At the onset of March 2016, doctors in Iceland confirmed that the talented shot stopper had abdominal cancer.
Harold Bergvinsson who is a trustee of projects at IBV organized a testimonial match for the player intended to help raise funds to meet the extremely astronomical medical bills.
