International Master Arthur Ssegwanyi started the 2016 Kawuma Open Chess edition in a familiar manner winning his first two rounds.
The Kawuma Open inaugural winner is at this stage positioned 11th after registering victories over Dalton Kawunde and Rodgers Ntambi.
Despite being one the biggest winners of the day with victory over Ntambi rated 1899 in the second round and being one of the favourites to win the Open, the Olympian says “it’s too early to tell” who will emerge champion.
Fide Masters, Harold Wanyama and Patrick Kawuma, and his fellow IM Elijah Emojong (Ssegwanyi’s top competitors) all won their games and the top seed admits it’s what was expected from them.
“Obviously anything less from my competitors would have been a surprise”
He however warns his challengers about Saturday’s games.
“Tomorrow the games will be harder and it will make the situation clearer”
Emojong is the defending champion of this fide rated event.
