Hardly had the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) competitions department announced Kira Young football club’s demotion from the second division (FUFA Big League) to the 4th division than the club director Jimmy Lukwago put the blame on the federation.
Kira Young F.C missed three league games (all away fixtures) against Onduparaka F.C (in Arua), Boma Young (Hoima) and Bukedea Town Council (Bukedea) a feat according to the competition rules automatically calls for demotion.
A bitter Lukwago attested to Kawowo Sports on Wednesday how FUFA had contributed to his free-fall and eventual relegation first from the top tier league, the Uganda Premier League.
I deliberately refused to travel for three matches after I sensed these guys (FUFA) were just playing games.
I traveled to Zombo (home of Paidha Black Angels) where my players were severely beaten. Without shame, the points were given to Paidha.
They sold two of my contracted players – Godfrey Sembatya (now in KCCA F.C) and Fred Nkata (Tusker F.C in Kenya Premier League) without my consent. Those are frustrating tactics.
I had no other business to continue with such mess, I will return when sanity returns
There is a conspiracy however, Lukwago had lost interest in the game when his side was relegated from the top tier at the climax of the 2014/15 season.
He thus reduced on the financial assistance to the team, handing it over to well wishers.
An insider of the club who asked not to be named said;
At many times, the players missed training sessions because of no transport allowances. The club has been struggling right from the word go. It is therefore not surprising that they are demoted.
When Kira Young was relegated last season, a visibly disappointed Lukwago termed the beautiful game as ‘Hell on Earth’ in reflection to the investment put into the team.
Senior club players then were sold off to various clubs – a development that witnessed goalie Ashadu Bugembe crossing to Sports Club Villa, Patrick Kaddu (Maroons), Sembatya (SC Victoria University), Derrick Tekkwo (Uganda Revenue Authority) among others.
It remains to be seen whether Kira Young F.C will play in the Fourth Division or suffer a natural death like a flower once fresh but withered under scorching sunny conditions.
Only time will tell.
