Express F.C 2-0 Lweza F.C
Express Football Club defeated a ten man Lweza outfit 2-0 in a highly explosive Uganda Premier League match played on a water logged Wankulukuku surface, on Saturday evening.
Tonny Odur’s well taken brace and Nestroy Kizito’s red card were the major talking points as the two clubs that share the same facility squared off.
Odur jumped high to nod home in the 36th minute a perfectly curled Simon Sserunkuma teasing cross from the left. Sserunkuma went passed Fred Okot with eye catching fancy step overs before swinging in the cross.
Earlier, Lweza had been the better side on the chilly evening before a lively crowd.
Inside the opening ten minutes, either clubs had a penalty shout turned down by the day’s referee for suspect hand-ball calls.
Ismail Kazibwe seemed to have handled in the forbidden area in the 6th minute and so was Nestroy Kizito in the area.
Isaac Sserunkuma had a 16th minute free-kick from 25 yards spilled away by Lweza goalie Charles Lukwago for Express’ opening corner.
In the 20th minute, Kizito was then booked for a tagging down Tonny Odur.
Towards the half hour mark, Okot who had a busy day down the right flank delivered a teasing cross that Express defender, Isaac Mutanga mistimed to result into a fruit-less corner.
Three minutes later, Okot’s cross was cleared out of danger with the awaiting goalkeeper, Geofrey Sserunkuma eager and ready to pounce.
The second half witnessed Express creating a couple of chances although the Lweza backline remained firm until Odur’s second.
Nestroy Kizito saw red for a second bookable offence before Express scored the second through Odur shortly after.
The victory gives Express F.C the full bragging rights over Wankulukuku following a 2-1 result in the first round.
Express now climbs to 4th on 39 points from 23 games as Lweza remains 10th on the 16 team log with 31 points.
Meanwhile, JMC Hippos slip to 5th as they lost 2-0 at home to Kampala Capital City Authority.
JMC has fetched 37 points off 26 games.
